Discovering HONU, and then some

Maui, Hawai'i, is rapidly becoming one of my most favored and traveled locations to visit, for various sporting and leisurely fun time activities now. Several contributing factors to this quickly rising status could have very well to do with starting with the obvious, the location that is Hawai'i and the astounding landscape, followed by the equatorial climate, and most importantly I feel, the spirit and nature of it's wonderful people. Numerous visits over the past six years to the tropical island paradise, have yielded so many amazing and memorable discoveries each time than I could have ever imagined, that is seems impossible for me to think that anymore can still be found on return trips. Of course on my most recent stay, the first of two scheduled for the year 2011, I made yet again some more wonderful, and possibly for one specific find, the biggest discovery ever so far.

HONU, Seafood & Pizza, which can be found located at 1295 Front Street, Lahaina, Hawai'i, quickly became my favorite chosen spot for fulfilling my hungry appetite recently while I was staying nearby in Lahaina. The new establishment, which was opened up by restaurateur Mark Ellman, and his wife Judy, offered up several various reasons which I found enticing enough to warrant my return for respective visits. For starters, the location is absolutely ideal in that no matter where you sit inside the restaurant while dining during daylight hours, you'll end up having one of the most beautiful views of the Au Au Channel, the island of Lana'i, and the Pacific Ocean beyond that for you observation pleasure. The unique sounds of the arriving waves atop the rocks just outside the dining area, not only enhances the overall vibe presented throughout HONU, but also favorably compliments the inside decor just as well. Evening diners should not feel left out in regards to missing the panoramic view, since the ambiance that is created in the evening Hawaiian air, is equally as good, if not better amidst the sounds of the soft surf and light offered from several lit torches during dinner hours.

The menu at HONU is pretty straight forward, and not over-laden with to many choices. Visiting patrons can find one dish or another, that is sure to satisfy their hunger while choosing to dine within this easily found location. I must say though, that don't expect such an easy choice here when it comes to ordering your meal from the menu, since all the items listed each sound so deliciously delightful. The welcoming and friendly staff on hand, will most assuredly point out some of the most popular, as well as individually favored dishes to those who are undecided. The various items offered as well, certainly can appease anyone from finding some of the most simplest creations, to others that are carefully crafted for scrumptious dining pleasure, all at very reasonable pricing too. If you are looking to compliment your meal with a fine beverage, the bar staff can serve up, or recommend the perfect wine, mixed drink, or beer whether in bottle or draft, to bring not only your meal, but your entire dining experience at HONU Seafood & Pizza full circle. When the dust settles, sit back and savor a nice hot cup of locally grown coffee, have a cappuccino, espresso, or even a latte as you contemplate over dessert, on just how you are going to spend your next day while staying in the tropical paradise of the magic isles.

HONU was a great discovery for me, and it can be for you as well if you plan on visiting the area anytime soon. To view the entire menu, as well as learn more about HONU in general, just click anywhere in this blog that you see the name of the restaurant listed, in order to visit the official website. This story does not end here though, since there was a much bigger uncovering that took place over the course of several visits to HONU. The distinguished honor of such a worthy find goes to the man himself, owner of HONU, chef Mark Ellman. My continuation of this story, and thoughts on several different conversations had with Mark, will be posted up next on LONGTRAILAHEAD.
