Lot's of hubbub this year for the xterra world championship race. New location, new swim, bike, and run courses, as well as the largest assembled group of off road triathletes, all vying for their best athletic performance of the year. It sure is gonna be one amazing show! The pro divisions both male and female, are filled with many familiar returning names, as well as some new unknown ones. Current Olympic gold medalist in the sport of triathlon, Germany's Jan Frodeno, is even getting in on the flurry of action this year. Raising the stakes even more so now, is the official conformation that cycling legend Lance Armstrong, has announced that he is very much looking forward to this years race in Maui. That alone is enough to drive ones performance even greater!
As I eluded to earlier, the new course up on Maui's north shore has everybody talking. This year, I am expecting a much different racing experience simply because the difference in course conditions. The change in venue, has allowed us competitors the opportunity to go out and pre-ride/run the entire bike and run course, a first ever for xterra world championship athletes. Needless to say, I am looking very much forward to getting out mid week and hitting both the bike, and run course in preparation for Sunday's big race. For now, I have included a full course map above for Sunday's race, as well as elevation gain tables for the bike and run below. As in true xterra fashion, it looks like the legs are gonna be hurting puppies after this one!
That's it for now, next time I'll see you from Maui, Hawai'i
